Halfway there to my fundraising goal!

So far I’ve raised $585 with the help of many friends and family!

I’m exactly a month out from the trip so we need to make one final push to meet the fundraising goal of $1250.

One month is plenty of time to meet the goal.  Even a 5 dollar contribution can go a long way.

Regardless of what you’re able or unable to donate, thank you for following this cause and supporting 🙂

Kind words from Deb Vaughn

About a month ago, Deb Vaughn emailed me about The Empty Suitcase Project EAST COAST.  She heard about my project through word of mouth (friend of a friend of a coworker type of connection). I think it’s pretty odd and amazing how God just connects us to the right people.  Anyways, Deb let me know that her church, Church in Bethesda, was interested in helping with the project.  Deb came up with the genius idea of placing a literal suitcase out for people to put their donations in.  After weeks of collecting supplies, she sent me this picture.  The suitcase was flowing with art supplies!

I met up with Deb Vaughn earlier this week at the NIH.  I had never met her before so I didn’t know what she looked like but I knew it was her when I saw Deb walking with a suitcase.  You know, I’m still in shock as to how much was in the suitcase and not only that but also how many people were involved to help with the project.  I wish I could meet everyone individually to thank them personally.

If you’re reading this blog now I really just want to say “thank you.”  Each and every donation matters and I’m so thankful for your time and effort.  As much as I’m here talking about how grateful I am, the more important thing is that the kids in Honduras will appreciate you.  It will be Christmas in July!

Here’s the link to Deb Vaughn’s WordPress blog.  She had such kind words to share so everyone check it out!

The Empty Suitcase Project EAST COAST

+ update

Here are the donated supplies so far!  The suitcase is about 1/4 of the way filled which is very exciting!

We still have about a month and a half before I’m off to Honduras so that means a month and a half longer to collect more art supplies for the kids!

Again, thank you everyone who contributed so far.  We’re really going to put smiles on those kids faces.

Hoops For Honduras

Calling all basketball players!  Save the date!  Saturday, June 9th 8:30am- 5:00pm

We have a fun fundraising event planned for next month.  3 vs 3 basketball tournament!  Come out, run some ball, support a good cause, and enjoy a day of friendly competition.  Of course there will be prizes for the winners.

All proceeds are going towards purchasing event supplies that we have planned such as sports games for the kids.

Registration is $60 but with a team of 3-4 players, that’s not much at all!

If you have any questions at all feel free to contact me so I can put you in touch with the right people to answer your questions.

I hope I see you all on June 9th! 🙂

We’re a step closer!

ImageWe purchased our flight tickets!  This means we’re a step closer and there’s no turning back now.

We’re flying out of Newark airport on Sunday, July 1 at 6:13am with a layover in Atlanta and then arriving in San Pedro Sula at 11:15am.

Going on a trip like this was initially an idea my friends and I tossed around at a bar during a get together.  We talked about going to a country that could use our help and that we could contribute to.  After taking a step back, to see this idea turn into a reality is pretty cool.  I’m really excited to be able to do this with some of my best friends.  Despite our conflicting schedules, financial situations, and readiness for a trip of this magnitude, we encouraged each other and, in the end, I think it’s safe to say that we’re happy to be in it together.

Farheen’s cousin who works in art therapy in FLORIA sent over this package for The Empty Suitcase Project!

Tayyaba is a fellow NIH coworker who heard about The Empty Suitcase Project and donated a bag of supplies this morning!

Updates+

Happy FRIDAY world!

I got a chance to talk to my team members Salvia and Christina who gave me plenty of updates that I want to share with everyone!

First, our team is combining efforts with Luke World Missions. From my understanding, Luke World Missions has years of experience serving  the community of El Castanos in Honduras.  They’ve done a lot of good work so far and I’m excited to keep the momentum going.

Second, the team is planning LOTS of fundraising events!  Some of these include a basketball tounament, cafe night, yard sale, babysitting, cocktail nights, etc.  As soon as I get the details I’ll post it up so that everyone reading can get involved and have a great time while supporting this mission trip.

Third, here’s just some updates about the mission trip itself.  I know I posted before that there were dentists going on the trip but I recently learned that there are no dentists this year 😦  Also, the team members and pastors of Calvary Vision Church are planning a revival for the children followed by games and activities.  The expected number of kids is close to 500 so this is where all your donations will come into play!  Lastly, one day will be dedicated to visiting neightboring villages and handing out food and donated clothes.

That’s all I have for now!  Take care!
